THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sabarimala temple was at 5pm on Friday opened for the monthly, Thulamasa, rituals. In the presence of temple thantri Kandararu Rajevaru, the head priest A K Sudheer Namboothiri opened the temple doors. Pilgrims would be allowed to visit the temple adhering to Covid-19 protocol from October 17 to 21.
Meanwhile, the draw of lots for the selection of new head priest of Sabarimala Ayyappa temple and Malikappuram temple would be held on Saturday.
It would be held in the presence of devaswom board representatives and an observer appointed by Kerala high court. The customary draw of lots from a group of short-listed candidates would be held at 8am after rituals.
As many as nine priests have been shortlisted to the post of Sabarimala melsanthi. Melsanthis are chosen for one year for the fresh pilgrim season that is set to begin on November 15.
The entry of pilgrims to the temple would be strictly based on pre-booking through the virtual queue.
