Talking to Mumbai Mirror about the same, Gajrag Rao reportedly said that after he was offered the role, he went back home and told his wife that it was a story about a couple expecting a child in their 50s. He told her that he feels people might make fun of him. His wife reportedly told him blatantly that he was no Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh, and even if the film does not work, it won’t affect his career or image. So the actor decided to go ahead with it.
Elaborating further, he also added although he knew that the film will be received well, it was Ayushmann Khurrana who had told him that the film will change Neena Gupta and his life. Although at that time he felt that Ayushmann was only motivating the, when he saw people queuing up outside theatres, he realised that his words were actually true.
Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, ‘Badhaai Ho’ won two National Awards. The film is now being remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam by Boney Kapoor.
